gapping bunching

I get asked to do a lot of gapping sessions by my clients using my Trackman to make sure they still accurately know their distances. For most of my players this runs smoothly and the stepping pattern soon emerges and any gaps clearly seen.

However, there is an issue when I try and do a gapping session for players with a relatively slow swing speed. The issues golfers have with a slow swing speed is the carry distances tend to get bunched up (go similar distances) and therefore you don't see the same step pattern. I have to end up working more off the total distance instead of the carry distance because the slower swing speed means less spin, less launch and thus shallower landing angles and so potentially greater roll out distances versus high ball hitters.

So if you tend to find that you have a lot of clubs that look like they all do the same thing, don't panic, your not alone. There are ways around this. Creative gapping, meaning using hybrids earlier in the set and fairway woods and create a more obvious step pattern. My advice would be to see a pro with a launch monitor and get experimenting. Good luck!
