Its that time of year again where the cold and wet weather sets in and rounds of golf can become more challenging to play. There are always the hardy few who bare the elements no matter what but for most its a time to reflect on their performances this season and work out ways to improve.
So many golfers now use the stat collecting apps which in my opinion are a great start to gaining an insight into your game when starting to make a plan. If you are not gaining such stats, have a good think about your game as a whole. When you scored well, what made the difference? When you play bad, what areas tend to fail first? Sometimes the areas you feel are a weakness are not always the route cause of the problem. For instance, if you are 3 putting too often, is it more because your first putt is so far away from the hole, the chances of two putting consistently are slim anyway. So in fact, the skill level needs to be improved with the approach play instead of the putting for example. Then its about putting this plan into action and thats where the discussion needs to be with your professional. Its all about making marginal gains each week / month to see a long term progression come the next season.
